Prayers for All Christians
The Lord's Prayer, Phrase by Phrase
Pray the prayer Jesus taught slowly, one line at a time, in the King James words, with a short meditation for each step. Tap any step; your place is saved.
The Jesus Prayer
An ancient prayer of the Eastern churches, loved by many Christians: breathe in slowly on the first half, breathe out on the second. Repeat it gently for a few minutes, letting it become the rhythm of your heart.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
It echoes the cry of the blind man on the road to Jericho: “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.” (Luke 18:38, KJV)
Psalm 23, prayed
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Pray it slowly, changing nothing, and let each line become your own. For a full meditation, open Day 1 of 7 Days with the Psalms.
A Morning Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for this new day and for the breath in my lungs. Before the noise begins, I give You my hours: my work, my words, the people I will meet. Look at me with Your kindness, and let me look at others the same way. Walk ahead of me, beside me and behind me. Whatever comes, let me remember that I am Yours. Amen.
An Evening Prayer
Father, the day is ending. Thank You for every good gift it held, even the small ones I barely noticed. Forgive me where I fell short, and heal what was hurt today, in me and in others. I place into Your hands the people I love and the worries I carry. Keep watch while I sleep, as You always do. In peace I will lie down and rest in You. Amen.
Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Traditional prayer, attributed to St. Francis of Assisi.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The prayers
Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Apostles' Creed
Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
O my Jesus (Fatima Prayer)
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.
Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Closing prayer
Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Angel of God (Guardian Angel Prayer)
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
The Way of the Cross
Walk the fourteen stations with Jesus. At each one, let Him look at you.
The Chaplet of St. Michael (Angelic Chaplet)
Nine salutations to the nine choirs of angels, each followed by one Our Father and three Hail Marys, then four Our Fathers and the concluding prayers.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Prayed on ordinary rosary beads: an Our Father, a Hail Mary and the Creed, then five decades of "Eternal Father" and "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion", ending with "Holy God" three times.
With St. Padre Pio
The Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which St. Padre Pio prayed every day for all who asked his prayers. Nine days: one Gospel word of Jesus (KJV), a meditation, a question, and the novena prayer. (The Gospel sayings inside the novena are given in the King James words.)
Stay with me, Lord
Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You. Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without fervor. Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in darkness. Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will. Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You. Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much, and always be in Your company. Amen. (St. Pio of Pietrelcina, excerpt)
Prayer to your Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
